Sometimes, redirecting URLs from old to new ones become a complicated task for bloggers, especially for those who are very new in blogging. As a blogger, I also faced this type of problems. But Blogger is providing Url redirecting service with more ease. Today, We will learn about how to redirect the deleted URLs to new ones in Blogger, to
stop generating more Page not found errors.
When to Redirect the deleted URL to new URL?
When we delete some posts from our blog or moved to somewhere else, then we have to redirect the deleted or moved URL to new URL. It also helps in maintaining our SEO rank.
Why to redirect moved or deleted URLs to new ones?
To prevent our blog creating more page not found errors with HTTP 404 response code. If we don't do so, then it will start creating more Page not found errors and visitors start ignoring our web page and articles.
How to redirect deleted Urls to new ones?
1. Login to your Blogger account.
2. Open your blog settings and Navigate to Search Preferences, shown in image.
3. Navigate to 'Errors and Redirections,' shown in above image.
4. Navigate to Custom Redirects and Click on Edit, shown in above image.
5. Click on Add New Redirect.
6. Now firstly, add your deleted URL and then new URL where you want to redirect the deleted one.
7. Remove your domain name from URL while adding the URLs in both fields.
Example:
You want to add this Url there,
http://www.example.com/2015/10/thanks.htmlthen URL which you will have to place there is like this one:
/2015/10/thanks.html8. Check the box to make the change permanent. It will be benefited in SEO.
9. Repeat the process again and again for all your deleted or removed pages from blog.
10. Now First click on Save, then at last on Save changes, have to click two times to save your settings, also shown in above image.
That's all. You have done!
